How do you tell if it is dislocated because I hurt it playing basketball and it still has been hurting for 3 hour. I can move it though.

You could have sprained the joint. You could even have a fracture. Go get it xrayed and you really shouldn't be moving it at ALL until you know with certainty it's not fractured. I wouldn't move it anyhow as it's sprained at the very least. Just ice it. Ten minutes on, ten off.

Sounds like a sprain to me.
Ice it up for half hour at a time, and take an anti-inflamatory (unless you have asthma or allergy to it) such as Ibuprofen 400Mg. If it has not got better by morning (i.e NO CHANGE) head off to your GP.
Dislocated thumbs can move but cause extreme pain when doing so.
If the pain keeps you awake at night- take paracetamol (unless you have an allergy or similar) every 4 - 6 hrs.
Good luck and i'm sure you will be fine. The symptoms sound like a severe sprain to me........ Ive had a bad sprain before too!

Like you ive had lots of basketball injuries
my friend dislocated it on a jump ball
Normally it will hurt unless its a terrible dislocation
she was not able to move it
you mightve just bruised ur thumb

Sounds like a sprain honey, put an ice pack on it to reduce any swelling and if you don't have an ice pack use a bag of frozen peas or corn. You can take an anti inflammatory such as Ibuprofen and that will reduce inflamation and help with the pain. Good luck

You may still be able to move it if it's dislocated, it just won't bend quite the same obvioulsy. See a doc.
