Do you mean 2 + 81, then divided by 3? or 2 + 18, which is 81 divided by 3? Let's take the latter, it's easier. So, you'd have 2 + 18 times 18 - 16=so the 2 and the 16 make one of the 18's, and you'd just have 17 times 18. So, 17 times 18 is the same as 34 times 9. You don't even have to do the multiplication!

im pretty sure this is an order of operations thing
so you do 81/3 first which equals 27
then 27 x 18 = 486
now + 2 = 488
- 16 = 472
now to figure out the blank you will *divide* the opposite side by nine (instead of multiplying it to the unknown)
you still dont get a whole number though
decimal form: 52.44444444
or 472/9

2 + 81=83/3=27.67(rounded) x 18 = 498.06 -16= 482.06 x 9 = 4338.54 (answer).

482=y times 9
482/9=y
