A game advertised as free costs nothing. These are the ones ordinarily found on websites. Some games, such as World of Warcraft, cost an initial fee and a monthly charge after that. Demo games, or simply "demos", cost nothing, but you can only play them for a limited time, or have limited accessability to the first couple levels or so. Open betas are games that are currently in testing amongst the general public. They tend to have a lot of glitches and bugs, and the beta testers (the players who download an open beta) are expected to report these so that the developers can fix it in the final product.
