I being a conservative republican from a family of the same can say....
No. Only radical conservatives (yes, yes, I know how that sounds) actually believe that. Upwards of 90% of the members of either party will be open to, without wholeheartedly agreeing with, the other party's beliefs. If a Democrat/Liberal were what was best for this country, I would vote that individual in.
In short, no, most conservatives think both are equal.

I urge you to read "The Conscience of a Conservative" by Barry Goldwater. It's at most libraries and on Ebay. Then ask your questions.
Bush, Cheney, Rove, et al are NOT conservatives. For proof, just look at the deficit, the debt, and the size of our "government" .

I'm not exactly sure of the nature of your question but I can tell you that I felt as if I were politically inclined as a conservative for years. I even voted for W. Bush the first time (Please forgive me!) BUT I ended up marching in protest against Bush's Iraq invasion and I jumped the Republican ship to help campaign for Kerry. I am sorry that he lost.
I guess my point is that sometimes people see the error of their ways. Al and Tipper Gore were at one time champions of conservative causes. Name calling is just fruitless for both sides.
