* XHTML elements must be properly nested
* XHTML elements must always be closed
* XHTML elements must be in lowercase
* XHTML documents must have one root element

HTML was first developed in the situation where computers were not very powerful. For example computers in those days didn't display color, they were usually just black and white. Hence HTML didn't have any tages that involve changing colors.

Years later color monitors came out and update the HTML language and added new tags giving it the ability to change color of text on the page. Everytime a revision of the language of the version came out, we ended up with new version of HTML

Instead of calling it HTML 5.0, they changed the name to XHTML 1.0
