Two rats male feamle are abandoned on an island in December.

. EACH FEAMALE BORN ON THE ISLAND WILL PRODUCE HER FIST LITTER 120 DAYS AFTER HER BIRTH AND THEN PRODUCE A NEW LITTER EVERY 40 DAYS THEREAFTER

. The rats are on an with no natural predators and plenty of food, so no rats die the fist year.

What will be the total number of rats by the following January 1, including the original pair?

I know the answer is 1808 but i need a new method of coming about the answer I will give my best answer to somebody who explains themselves clearly Thank You in advance!!

need to make a model using terms for each female.
X(mother) makes 6 babies every 40 days. = 6 x days/40
at time 120, there are 3 more mothers giving birth to 6 babies each. that's 3 x 6 x days/40
at time 240, there are 3 x 3 = 9 more mothers giving birth to 6 babies each. that's 9 x 6 x days/40
at time n x (120) there are 3^n x 6 x days/40
do this calculation for each time which is a multiple of 40
