When one does a search, there are people in each category
digital cleanup artist
digital layout artist
but rarely listed in both.
A cleanup artist is one that takes an assembled image, whether automatically put together by a computer program or assembled one of the artists working on the components, and works on fixing at least two kinds of problems: some times the components that should hide each other - say a wing in front of a body - don't and these must be fixed. Other times a sequence - a person walking through a door, the door closing behind them - turns out to have flaws, like the person's foot being visible in front of the door as it is closing because the program animating the person did not move them far enough and the clipping program clipped the person by depth rather than light of sight where the door would hide.
The digital layout artist normally works early in the process - if a horse is to be galloping through the scene, the layout artist sketches in the road path and the tree branches and determines when the horse will turn, etc., so the detail artists can animate the twists and turns the horse must make. When you see an animated line drawing moving through line scenery, that is the next step after the layout artist's work.
