TV series never spoils a laptop till it's too boring to make you throw your laptop away!

make sure you are not blocking the vents underneath the laptop and on the sides, because usually laptops take in air from underneath and the fan blows it out from one side (left/right or back)

You could put a stiff flat sheet underneath it, or something that would keep the vent underneath the laptop unblocked, if you want to save money and don't care about looks, you use a plastic sheet or plexiglass sheet, or if you are willing to spend a little money, you can buy a laptop lap-desk, i think it costs 50 bucks or something, but it is foldable and has a small useless place which is presumably for external mouse

You can use the laptop on the bed. The only caution(s) are to make sure that sufficient air can get to it to keep it cool. The laptops fan needs to be able to blow the hot air away from the computer. Also make sure you don't have it fall off the bed or spill something on it.

it got ventilation holes on the bottom with a fan? You block them with sheet or blanket or duvet you risk it overheating.

Plus the fan system will fill up with fluff.

Plus if you fall asleep watching it and knock it on the floor... oops.

So on balance, you do risk spoiling it.

Put iton your bedside cabinet.

It shouldn't, unless you shake it vigerourly while it is thinking, or reading a disk. Doing so can cause damage to your hard drive or CD/DVD drive. Also you might shake somthing loose inside which is never good.
