I have a Compaq Presario and at the time I did not know how to create a recovery CD's/

System recovery and Recovery CDs wipe out the hard drive and reload the factory defaults. There should have been a screen in the recovery process telling you this. Your files are gone.

The recovery cd basically wipes out your hard drive! the name is misleading! it doesn't recover anything, it basically restores your system back to the factory settings
