I really think that it has something to do with all of the bovine growth hormones and antibiotics that are injected into the livestock that is our food/milk source. How can we think that people who ingest steroids 3-5 times per day are going to stay small? Add that to a sedentary lifestyle (you know that some schools don't have recess, and some are banning any sort of chase games for fear of lawsuits), and the results are what we are seeing in many 'civilized' nations.

Plus, people hardly eat any 'real food' any more. It comes from a box, a can, the freezer section, etc... and barely anyone has the time to cook a real home cooked meal from scratch. People are meant to eat real food, not a bunch of chemicals that are congealed, formed, and colored to look like real food. When I grew up, I think that there were less chemicals and more homemade meals.

Me as a 14 year old girl can say that children are obese because we have video games, TVs,DVD player's,psp's, and computers. Which means we use these things as a sense of entertainment. My grandmother is always saying why don't you guys go outside and play or run in the backyard. We all moan because we don't find anything that requires us moving fun or entertaining. So we just sit around. Also its because there's a fast food restaurant on every corner. So we think should we make us a turkey sandwich or go around the corner for a Big Mac?

And to all who read this is this a trick question?

1. Because they are lazy. All they do is sit around and play video games. When I was growing up we went outside to play, ride bikes, skate, etc.

2. Because their parents are obese and the eat all kinds of fattening and unhealthy food. 9 times out of 10 when you see an obese kid, they are followed by obese parents and siblings.

There are a lot of junk food that kids can get their hands on easily and with little money. Food is good, especially the fatty kind. Technology are keeping kids from exercise. I'm chubby, not obese, but still chubby.

I'd say too much fast food and no encouragement to go outside, based on how people around me raise their kids. Breakfast is McDonalds, lunch is a Lunchables or a cheeseburger at school, and dinner is Sonic, McDonalds, or the fried chicken place. It floors me how these same people go on about how broke they always are, yet they never cook at home. It's always eat out, and always at high fat, totally fried fast food joints. None of their kids are involved in any physical activity, PS2 and Xbox are the way they keep them out of their hair. All of them are overweight, ranging from maybe 10 pounds over to OMG overweight.

My thought is that it has something to do with the RBGH in dairy products. How can the cows be injected with a growth hormone and there be no side effects to the consumers? Oh and I am sure the number of kids playing video games has a little something to do with it as well.

It's a combination of things. Instead of being active outside playing sports & stuff, they are now sitting on their butts playing Xbox and surfing the internet. Instead of their parents cooking them a healthy meal, the parents find it much easier to go to McDonald's.

personal experience...my friend feeds her one year old daughter donuts for breakfast, mcdonald's cheeseburgers and fries for lunch, chocolate for snacks, and equally unhealthy food for dinner. The kid constantly has food in her mouth and it's always something high in fat content. Also, kids have stopped playing outside like we used to and now they just sit around playing video games.
