ok. So I just got prescribed this antibiotic m-something-tricyclin (I don't have the bottle in hand) to fix up my acne. I have heard that taking antibiotics can cause yeast infections...I don't know much about those, I have never had one, and honestly I really don't want to know about them. So, what can I do to keep from getting a yeast infection while I am on this antibiotic for a few months? I take the antibiotic at night, and eat yoghurt in the morning so it doesn't mess up my gi tract...but I know that the bacteria in yoghurt won't do anything for down there, so what will?

Yogurt will also help this problem, but you may try using prophylactic yeast infection creams. You may never have had a yeast infection but the antibiotics will kill the normal growth that you have.

Yes, you heard it right about taking yogurt to help the GI tract with the right bacteria. Antibiotics of the broad-spectrum type kill both good and bad bacteria and that leads to a proliferation of the yeast, which is normally kept in check by the good bacteria. You could also help yourself by taking some probiotics in addition to yogurt (which may add to your calories). And look for the live cultures symbol and the information when you buy yogurt. Some of them don't have enough to help you.

The use of antibiotics acan make it more likely for you to get a vaginal yeast infection.

Anitibiotics can alter the delicate balance in your vagina by suppressing the naturally occurring "GooD" bacteria that keeps hte yeast fungus under control.

If you never had them, you are not susceptible to them, you may be in the clear. Eating yogurt may help to fight the yeast infection too.
