I like rock, hardrock, punk, alternative, indie, emo, metal... I can tolerate some rap music but country or pop is completely out of the question.

Any bands you can recommend?

Turbonegro - Gay Norwegian death punks. The last great hope for rock if you ask me.

Radio Birdman - Aussie proto-punks who blend the Doors, Blue Oyster Cult, the Stooges, New York Dolls and classic surf guitar. One of the most unsung bands of the 1970s, they recently reformed and are touring the US.

If you really want to be exposed to a lot of different music, pick up the UK music publication MOJO.
