How long do urine odors last?

I am serious about this. I had a friend pee on my carpet while drunk. We cleaned it up and sprayed febreeze but of course the urine got in good. This may be a stupid question but how long do odors like this last. I am assuming odor eventually wears out. Does anybody know about this and I am also interested in how it works. I don't just want to cover it up, I want the odor gone.

Use a carpet cleaner and that should do the trick. Instead of using the regular carpet shampoo use sudsy ammonia, It works wonders and you can clean your furniture as well.

The problem is, as it was soaked with wee, the smell has dried in the carpet. You should have really soaked it with water as it would have diluted it. Anyway, putting frebreez on wont make it go away, wet it a lot, with soapy hot water and keep scrubbing ,keep blotting with old towels, you will smell it. the more you do it, the more the smell will go. Do it a few times, the smell will go, ive done believe it!!
