Refrigerator. It is a holdover term from the days prior to electrical refrigeration, when you stored ice in an insulated box to keep your food fresh, delivered periodically by the "ice-man".

An icebox is another name for a refridgerator and you had to buy blocks of ice to put in them to keep your food cold since there wasn't a freezer part. So basically the song is saying he feels like his heart has gone cold.

Before electricity, people had ice boxes, but the name stuck. It was like a cabinet where perishable food was stored, and the ice man delivered ice daily. Ice was put in there to keep the food cold and fresh.
That's why people keep yelling, "Close the ice box!" If you kept it open too long, all the cold would seep out. That doesn't happen so much these days, but habits are hard to break.

It means in the olden days, instead of having fridges that were run on electricity, the iceman would come a couple of times a week to put a chunk of ice in it. Hence the origin on the word "ice box."
