Has this girl ever kissed a boy??? Bet she thought that was gross once upon a time. Bet if she has kissed a boy she liked it. (Ask her if she's ever heard kissing referred to as 'swapping spit'...she'll probably turn green, but that won't stop her from kissing) News flash for her...much more direct way of getting someone else's germs than drinking from the same drink if that's her concern. But germs are germs and it wouldn't be wise to drink from another person's glass, bottle, or can if they have cold sores, mono, or even a simple cold, and if they're sisters they'd know about those things. They probably swapped sippy cups frequently when they were toddlers.

My take on this is that there's a bit of sibling rivalry going on there. Think about it. Do they argue a lot over seemingly silly stuff? Do you see signs of jealousy between them? Do their parents favor one of them over the other? While your friend could have a real fear of germs that's probably not the actual issue here. It's just your friend's way of letting her sister know that she (your friend) is superior.

Sibling rivalry is generally normal and healthy and just a phase of life that will fade away with time. It is also the beginning of a process that teaches us how to deal with all kinds of people throughout our lives.

Hope you're still friends in the future so you can see them changing each other's kids' diapers. Better still, you can watch their kids (and yours too for that matter) touch all sorts of things and then stick their fingers in their own or each other's mouths!!! Then you can remind her of how gross she thought it was that her sister drank from her drink and you can all have a good laugh. Duh, let's see...would I rather take a sip of your drink or change a dirty diaper. Now that's a no-brainer for me...LOL

I think as long as the person doesn't have a contagious illness of some sort, it's fine. Backwash can be a problem for me, too.

Actually, a person's saliva gets mixed into the drink no matter how little contact their mouth has with the drink.

This is more of a mental issue than a physical issue. She associates the sharing with germs and she doesn't like the fact that someone else's 'germs' are on or in her drink. Little does she know that may 'germs that we take in are immediately attacked by our immune system and most die in digestion.

I don't think its gross I share drinks with my friends or whoever but some people are like germ-freaked and that just might be the way she is. But even though I still do I think its pretty gross when you share the same sucker though.

I drink after my siblings all the time. Never once did I think it was gross.

What is gross is drinking out of the milk container and putting it back in the fridge...

I share drinks with my cousin all the time its like we're sisters. Its not that gross because its not like your sharing drinks with a total stranger. Your cousin is relative to you and your relatived to them.Tell your friends sister that you guys have almost the same dna.So anyways keep up the thing you r doing with you cousin.

Are you kidding? The people living in Kentucky share a lot more than a drink with a relative. Not to worry.

Your friend is a germaphobe-she hates germs! That is the only answer to this question. Just because it is her sister, she does not like drinking after someone or someone drinking after her. She finds that they may have something in their mouths still, may have not brush their teeth, ate something that makes their breath stinks-whatever, there are a lot of people out there that do not like to drink after someone-relative or not!

I hate to share drinks, even with my husband. I never shared with my son when he was small. I think it's just gross that someone might leave backwash or whatever.

no of course not.. but some people are very particular about such things.. for example, some people are grossed out about sharing the same hair brush, and some people aren't.. this is just a 'each to his own' thing
