value of old coins......anyone familiar with this?

im not a coin collector but ive seen an ad for civil war era ships that have been recovered with silver dollars, selling for about $1000 each.

im not looking to get rich, and i can afford the price....i find having one may be intresting, thats all.

i just wonder about the value......
