whats the differnce in job title between an officer and assistant. for example what is the differnce between an accounts payable officer and an accounts payable assistant?

The officer has the authority to make decisions and the assistant doe's not.

You pretty much have it. It's a title. Normally speaking, the assistant "assists" the officer. Consider it as being in training ........

I'd guess officer is more senior
