I have drawn a large butterfly in the upper left corner of my paper, but i don't knowwhat i should do for the rest of the picture. I was thinking of having a girl holding her hands below it, and smile/looking at it. The butterly is different shades of blue, and black.

Any suggestions? (it's made out of colored pencils/carcoal)

I think a solo butterfly would make for a real regal feel to your piece; while a girl would create an innocent one. It depends on what you want it to say.

I'd put in some very abstract greenery to complement the blue.
Leaving the butterfly hanging in white space is, perhaps, a little too incomplete. Adding too much detail (like a girl looking at it or outstretched hands) could weaken the impact of the butterfly and maybe make the whole picture a little kitsch.
But, hey, art is very subjective and, ultimately, the decision is up to you, the artist!
Good luck! (And keep drawing.)

Draw a flower garden beneath it, a bunch of smaller "baby" butterflies, or draw the girl as you were saying. Try and make the girl look little and cute, cause butterflies are generally considered pretty feminine.

Music is not only the art of sounds, but also the art of silence. Similarly, art is not always about what's on the canvas, but what is not. Think about a white background and place butterfly anywhere on it while leaving rest blank. White space finds definition by what is surrounding it and how it is surrounded. Think about it.

I think you should draw a very tall looking tree in the center going almost to the top. but leave the space between the butterfly and the tree white, also paint the tree w/ watercolors with the charcoal showing beneath it. that should look good. (pardon my spelling)
