Except that the universe is not a chess set, in that the "pieces" - tfeh people - are NOT being recycled, but are being born new each time; therefore, there is NOT a finite number of events, because there is an INFINITE number of actors.
Even if you believe in reincarnation, the next birth is not identical to the prior birth; therefore, new actor.

The more obvious one is thermodynamics. The entropy of the universe always increases. Some people call entropy time's arrow. It ensures that the universe can never be exactly like it was before. Even if the universe collapses back in on itself, it will be different than it was at the beginning in the big bang. More entropy.

This idea violates the 2nd law of thermodynamics. Which basically says that the amount of chaos in the world is always increasing. In order for your statement to be correct there would have to points in time in which the 2nd law is violated.
It is also possible to prove that the number of possible events is infinite.
