I think the Sharks have become a much more formidable opponent than they were without him. I don't think the sharks would be doing much without him. Cheechoo would probably not have scored the goals he did, which basically made him an all-star.

Without Joe Thornton, this team would still be a good team and a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference. The year before the lockout, with no Joe Thornton, the Sharks made the Conference finals! They got robbed with Joe last year when Edmonton knocked them off in the second round (they were actually one bounce away from being up 3-0 in that series). But, with Joe Thornton, they are that much more dangerous. He does a lot of things with the puck that maybe only one other player on that team (Patrick Marleau) can do, which sets up a nice, balanced attack by having multiple players who can do great things with the puck. They are definitely a Stanley Cup contender in this league.

The Sharks would be your average NHL team without him. I've always been a fan of both Thornton and Cheechoo....even before Thornton came to SJ. The attention can potentially hurt them because of the high expectations placed on them after doing extremely good last season - the entire team, Thornton and Cheechoo. Could it be the coaching or could it be the goaltending? Regardless, I hope they can kick it up a notch and start winning more games!

i have asked myself that question many times, and every time i remember that 04 season western conference finals without Joe......now we are a very deep team great depth in all positions and great picks still left. we would definetely be competitive but we would be fighting for a 8th spot none the less. we have great goal scorers but joe is just such a great passer ad like everyone has said he slows the game so much that his vision is perfect and his passing is pin point top notch. with jumbo joe we def became a pretender into perineial team like that.

Sharks would be an above average team. But with big Joe they are a team with min. two All star players - one is him and there's always another one made by him.

not that good because he is pretty much their leading scorer. But I hate him, because he left my team.So I know hoe he plays with the bruins. The sharks are a whole different story.
