The cause of most spontaneous abortions is fetal death due to fetal genetic abnormalities, usually unrelated to the mother. Other possible causes for spontaneous abortion include infection, physical problems the mother may have, hormonal factors, immune responses, and serious systemic diseases of the mother (such as diabetes or thyroid problems).
It is estimated that up to 50% of all fertilized eggs die and are lost (aborted) spontaneously, usually before the woman knows she is pregnant. Among known pregnancies, the rate of spontaneous abortion is approximately 10% and usually occurs between the 7th and 12th weeks of pregnancy.
The risk for spontaneous abortion is higher in women over age 35, in women with systemic diseases such as diabetes or thyroid problems, and women with a history of three or more prior spontaneous abortions.

There are a lot of reasons for miscarriages, the most superficial being:
-Smoking, drinking or drugs during pregnancy.
To go further into it, more causes could be:
-Placenta previa
-Leakage in amniotic fluid.
-Over-exertion
-A fall or bump.
Or even:
-The baby could have had a serious health problem, such as learning difficulties or a severe deformation, in which case the body often forces the baby out, knowing it is ill.
I know how she feels, I almost lost my baby at 16 weeks - I have been on bed rest ever since, I have placenta previa and a leakage in amniotic fluid, and I also had a haematoma from a fall at the time. I am now 30 weeks and hoping all will be OK - I feel for your friend though, I know what I went through when I thought I was going to lose my baby!

I am due in September and I am only 2 1/2 months
Sorry time just didnt seem to add up right. I sure you are telling the truth
A miscarriage is the spontaneous loss of a fetus before the 20th week of pregnancy. (Pregnancy losses after the 20th week are called preterm deliveries.)
A miscarriage may also be called a "spontaneous abortion." .
Most miscarriages occur when the unborn baby has deadly genetic problems. Usually, these problems are unrelated to the mother.
Other possible causes for miscarriage include:
Infection
Physical problems in the mother
Hormonal factors
Immune responses
Serious systemic diseases of the mother (such as diabetes or thyroid disease)

There are many reasons a woman can loose a baby. It was probably not her fault, sometimes it's unexplainable. The baby could have just stopped growing. You friend should be the one, when the time is right, to explain what the doctor told her happened. But if it makes you feel any better, most miscarriages can not be prevented, and has nothing to do with the mother.

I had a miscarriage at that same trimester. I asked the doctor the question that you are asking us. He explained to me that it was possibly caused by a hormonal imbalance that never really allowed the formation of a fetus/baby. It produced the same "symptoms" of a pregnancy, but eventually had to end.. or abort because there was only tissue forming and not life.
I'm not sure what you're friend's situation is, but the best I would suggest to you is that you support her and let her know that she didn't cause it and that it just wasn't time. Hopefully her experience will allow her to help someone else.

There are so many reasons.. it could have been chromosomes, I lost one due to Turner's syndrome. Are they doing any tests to see what was the cause? I know it is difficult to understand and will be for a long time. I still have problems thinking about mine. But always know it happens for a good reason. That is the only way I coped.
Note to the one above due in September.. you should be further along than that.. 16wks = 4 months so are you sure you are about your due date?

No they do no longer. What they do is to maintain sperm from achieving the egg. How they do it relies upon on the form you have. in case you have the Mirena, it releases progesterone which thickens the cervical mucus so as that sperm can't get with the aid of. in case you have the copper IUD, called Paragard, it releases copper that's poisonous to sperm. i've got additionally examine that it impacts the way the egg strikes besides. It supposedly additionally differences the liner of the uterus, yet that hasn't certainly been desperate. consequently, it stops being pregnant because of the fact of this no abortion ever occurs. in case you prefer to make certain extra, this is worthwhile to to envision out the IUD Divas community on LiveJournal. there's a ton of information on there.
