the heart and soul of your d and one of the premier linebackers in the game... i dunno ...the steeler brass should have @ least negotiated with him...i just don't see how cutting porter improves their d......

It was a good move, because he had rubbed a lot of people in the Steelers organization the wrong way. It was just a move to show the other players to watch out and tow the company line. They had to make an example of somebody and he's the biggest personality on the team. They'll probably re-sign him for less money, since he still a ok player.

A very good move. They cut out the fat of a declining linebacker corps, he is a nuisance not a leader, and the Steelers always utilize their players while they still have some worth.

He's overrated anyway. His mouth does all the playing. It's mostly the coaching staff that helped the Steelers make a reputation for their defense.

It's a salary cap move. Porter was due to make $5 million this year and his performance has been droping rapidly. Plus he was talking about holding out of training camp unless they gave him a RAISE!
Most people here in Pittsburgh knew this would happen.

I don't really get it, unless they plan to get him back on another contract, cheaper. Maybe though they want to switch to the 4-3 and that is part of it. I'm just hoping something more comes out about logic. Maybe it was for a cheaper contract and maybe he wanted out. I mean maybe with Cowher gone he actually wanted to leave.

They are losing their best linebacker, I understand why they are doing this because of salary cap issues, but no this is not a good move I think. Its great for teams in need of a good linebacker though!!
