I agree but I think its because its a familiar route home so you tend to take less notice.

we've pushed to Manchester many, many circumstances and it has consistently appeared longer getting there than coming back. i think of the previous asserting 'house is the place the heart is' has lots to do with it! My in-regulations have now moved close to us so not greater journeys to Manchester 6 circumstances a 12 months. They now stay 5 minutes away and it extremely is heaven that those uninteresting highway journeys are somewhat of the previous.

The other cliche, when you grow older, is 'you can't ever go home again.' I took Yahoo! Maps for a 'Superman' flight over
the land of my birthplace and boyhood looking down at the high resolution satelite photography and on the first pass saw a lot of changes. New roads. A cattle feedlot. Missing structures.
Decay. Wreckage. Fields glittering with salt from brine laced
pumping. I won't be going home in person ever again.

Huh, I think it takes longer, which I think is probably since you are tired, or in a hurry, to get home it seems to take forever.
I guess depending on where I am going it will seem longer there than back, or longer back than there. Basically when you are having fun and are distracted by stuff it doesn't seem to take as long as when you are eager to get somewhere right now and you don't want to wait.

I mentioned this to my daughter today...we were discussing a return car trip from Yeovil to carlisle ..and I mentioned that the trip back would not seem so far....
Her reply...You gotta be kidding..it seems a hellava lot longer..lol
I did mention it should be quicker though...as its downhill all the way.

I agree, think its probably psychological, maybe cos you know the exact way your gonna go home cos you've done the trip there, but it even happens on journeys you do regularly so that is a crap theory, sorry i can't help!!!!!

It certainly does doesn't it !
I have always wondered that, I think its because we have a HOMING INSTINCT going on, and we seem to relax and think of other things, and not always notice the area covered etc.,
They have not shrunk the miles - honest!!!
