I am writing an essay on him for english class. The main content of the essay is to explain Poe's background and connect some of his short stories (The Raven, The Cask of Amontillado, The Masque of the red death, and Anabell Lee) to his life.
For example-I was thinking I would state how "The Cask of Amontillado" is a revenge story and how Poe would like revenge on his foster dad for turning his back on him.
Also, in the Raven, he is showing how his wife died and will never return. (Quoth the raven, nevermore)
I just want to see if anyone can give me some connections between Poe's life and the short stories in which I posted above.

i love Poe!! i wish i had that essay instead of the one i am writing now. as far as the two you used you have it right. The Raven is about his wife and the"The Cask Of Amontillado" is about revenge against his father. remember that Poe is known as the great and morbid writer. he was depressing, disgusting and a complete psycho so try to get that feeling in your essay. Annabell Lee is also about his wife but unlike the raven he says that they will be reunited i think it says that their love was not welcomed by friends and family but they tried to take her away from him. The Masque of the red death is said to be Poe's idea of tuberculoses which killed some of those close to him.

My favorite works from Poe are The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart, and The Bells. I read an article once about how everyone thinks that Poe died from his alcoholism, but they actually did tests and research and found out that he actually died from rabies (a little known fact that I hope you will enjoy). He also lived in a house in Philadelphia for a time and I actually got to visit it years ago on a field trip from school. Good luck on your essay.

i did a paper on him and i found out that he lived a crazy life he wqas a drunk he did drugs he died young and he was in the army. he had a gambling problem he didnt talk to his dad. his mother died young he was under a fake name for a while. here is a link to find out more about him and it will give u an insite on why he worte some of things he did

He wrote "Annabel Lee" about the eleven year old girl he was in love with.
That's all i can think of...To bad you don't need metaphor translations lol i'm brilliant at those.
