Im doing a paper about the history of underworld lingo slang terminology like artichoke and hoodlum. I have the definition but not the history.

hmmm i can't say i've heard the term "artichoke" as slang, but definitely check out www.dictionary.com they give the root history of words. as long as they recognize the word as having a slang meaning, you should find what you're looking for. good luck!
