It should have a sticker on it that says if its vista capable.
but if it doesn't i would say to check the required specs of vista and compare them to your computer, something that new should be able to handle it, unless it was a really really really cheap model(i do not really know much about gateway laptop models) Hope that helps

I wouldnt do the switch unless its in the name of fun. If you play alot of games,, I would also avoid vista. The boot up may be faster.. and the screen will look pretty but everything bugs and etc arent worth it. Sure its Vista ready , but when XP came out, 98 users were asking the same thing. You can run Xp on 64mb of ram ,but you lose the cosmetic screen animations... Vista you can run with your 4200 rpm drive and 1 gig but thats like the bare minimum. XP is also currently more tweak friendly. You may be able to make it a dual boot,,, So when you want to play with Vista you can...

Good luck

I would be hesitant! Vista doesnt seem to run on anything! Too many driver issues. I havent seen as many troubles on any other windows based system ever!

look at the windows vista web site and make sure you meet the memory, processor and video requirements. if you just got the computer i would think it would be up to par.
