Here's a link on babycenter.com that talks about this question:
http://www.babycenter.com/expert/preconception/gettingpregnant/7106.html
In this case, the woman was two weeks late, so she was almost certainly not pregnant. Since you're just one day late, you could be pregnant and the hormones aren't strong enough to register yet on a test.
If more time passes and you're still getting a negative pregnancy test, you should see your doctor so they can give you a pregnancy test themselves (theirs are better at revealing early pregnancies) or examine you for another issue that may be causing you to miss your period. Two possible issues would be:
• Thyroid problems. If your thyroid gland (which controls your body's metabolism) isn't working properly, it could interfere with your periods. Other symptoms of a thyroid problem include extreme tiredness, hair loss, weight gain, and a constant feeling of being cold when everyone else is comfortable. A simple blood test will determine whether your thyroid is doing its job; you can correct the condition with medication.
• Too much prolactin. You might miss a period (or more than one) if your brain is producing an abnormally high level of the hormone prolactin. A woman's body usually makes prolactin when she's breastfeeding, which is why menstruation generally stops when she's nursing. If this is what's happening to you, you may notice a milky discharge from your nipples. This condition can usually be treated with medication.

It could be many things that would cause your period to be late. Stress being on the top of the list. If you are really wanting to get pregnant you are probably sressing yourself out about it I know I did when I first got married I took at least 2 pregnancy tests a month for at least 6 months. LOL too much stress will really screw up your cycle. Just try to meditate and destress a little and chances are your period will come in a few days or if not take another pregnancy test and see what it says in a week or so.

I've been there!
It could be late, when I had a pregnancy scare my period came 2 weeks late!
But don't rule it out! Was it a home pregnancy test? If it was I suggest you go to the clinic and get a test done there, they'll be a 100% and you can get some answers on why your period might be late!
Good luck!

It's only been a few days. Give it about a week before going to see a doctor. Periods are a few days early and a few days sometimes. Sometimes they are also late due to stress and health. I once was two weeks late due to stress and life. Also you CAN get false negative home pregancy test results. But, you can't get false positive's results. So, you still may be pregnant and need a blood test to confirm it. Good luck and wait a little.

You could have taken the test too early. Wait for another week and take another one or go to your doctor if you don't start your period. It could be many things other than a pregnancy. Good luck!

Go to the Dr for a blood test...I just recently found out that you can miss a period all together.

My friend took two pregnancy tests which came out negative and she was actually pregnant. See a doctor to know for sure.

you say you have taken 2 pregancy test already and your period was due on the 27. well its only 2 days late. so that means you have taken 3 test within 2days, you might not have enough hcg to detect. i would say wait another week before testing.

alright you are only 2 days late, its nothing to be THAT worried about. but if your pregnancy tests are negative then i would say no you aren't pregnant. if you are stressed or change in diet that could effect your period. there are so many factors that can cause you to be late besides pregnancy. so dont worry.

You are more likely to get a false negative on a pregnancy test than you are a false positive.
