Try putting up with 20-30 students every hour, eight hours a day, five days a week. Students that are mean, manipulative, lazy, and would just as soon spit on you as shake your hand. Then have the task to teach them when they have no desire to learn. Factor in the parents that want to blame you for every single mistake their child makes. All the while, you're trying to make a difference and help these kids who do not even like you. You'll become mean too.

Mean in what way? If you mean that the teacher makes fun of students, says demeaning things, and goes out of her or his way to make trouble for you, I would say it's a power trip.
However, if by "mean" you are talking about when teachers insist that you follow the rules, work your hardest, do work over again when it's wrong, call your parents when you misbehave and in general hold you accountable for your own actions, then I say that teacher is probably one of the best you'll ever have and that one day you'll be thankful he or she was in your life.

Why do students go to school to be liked by their teachers?
Would you rather have a teach that is mean and intelligent or nice and stupid?
Our schools and students are so messed up because their priorities are messed up.

They're not.. you just THINK they are.. but in reality, it's YOUR fault your homework's not done, not the teacher's... Some students I have HATE the teacher, but she's just doing her job (I'm a Teacher's Assistant, so I'm not biased)

3 reasons
1 They had mean teachers when they were growning up
2 its fun
3 they have to deal with class after class of teaching the same thing that they already know to a bunch of little devils who act like smart donkeys

Because they have to put up with stupidity and ignorance all day long!
Either that or you're making a gross generalization that's quite unfair. You pick. :)
