It's the food they cook with strong spices which are absorbed in their clothes and hair while cooking. If they don't open the windows while cooking it gets into their clothes. It doesn't get absorbed in skin but clothes, hair and also the house. They shower a lot since India can be very warm. I myself have noticed it and it is more prevalent with South Indians. btw If they are vegetarian they complain of smell of chinese, other ethnicities etc. just for the reason they prepare seafood, meat etc. and they are not used to that smell. I am an Indian and I do get smell from some Indians in U.S. In India they open the windows so the smell doesn't stay, but being colder over here they can't open the windows so much.

This has to be the most ridiculous question I have ever heard. Firstly being indian or eating indian food has nothing to do with it! Its because some people just dont wash, its nothing to do with religion or diet!
Also it tends to be the smell of the cooking on their clothes, as some people dont open their windows or turn on their extractor fans on.
But another point, most people I have been seated to on the train home that smell are to be from all different races. When I went to Kenya a few years ago, the people on the bus smelt awful, but I have never generalised and said all black people smell as its not true. Your painting everyone with the same brush and I hope you realise your question was a ridiculous and stupid one.

Now then Vorsprung - supposing I suggested you smelt of frankfurters and sauerkraut ? You'd think I was anti German, wouldn't you ? You'd accuse me of getting you confused with the racist scum who peddled all that psuedo scientific garbage and caused us all such grief in the thirties and forties. Phrases like "...unique to such races" rather give the same away.
Everyone smells, Vorsprung, even you. Especially you.

This question has already been ask, check it out, and then ask yourself if you would like to be told you smell bad?
Because you do.
If you visit China, you will smell of SOUR MILK to the chinese, they do not use dairy produce as part of their daily diet and we do
But they would be far too polite to make mention of this..
I think its not necessarily racist to voice your opinion, but quite bad manners. And from those whom you have mentioned certainly do not SMELL BAD, and their impeccable manners and kindness far over weighs any aroma of spices you might detect.

I think its the constant use of spices. Even paan which they chew on has spice in it. Its like having 10 different perfumes on at once. Everything is flavoured which obviously causes a clash at some time.

It's partly linked to diet. Westerners smell of dairy.

It has to do with diet. Other cultures feel that Westerners stink. It is by no means a one sided issue.

Often they are of a Hindu sect which forbids bathing unless it is in the sacred Ganges river. No baths=bad smell.
