The easiest way is to place the tip of a #2 phillips head screwdrived directly over the center of the CHECK ENGINE light and give it a good, solid whack with a 16-ounce hammer. It shouldn't bother you any more after that.

You have to take it to a service center to have the internal computer reset. However, if the light is staying on after you start the car, there is probably something wrong with your engine that you should have checked. The light is there for a reason.

Put it on a computer scanner and see what code it brings. The same scanner will pinpoint the problem and clear the light. You must fix the problem, or you risk the light turning back on after resetting the computer by driving about 30 miles.
