Why not go back to 98SE? Neither NT nor 2000 are much game compatible, and 98SE should be cheap now.

Or go all the way up to XP Home. Your choice.

good luck NT is pretty much obsolete. You cannot really upgrade to something that high. There are a few things you must consider for upgrading or adding software applications

-----Ram: make sure you have enough memory to run the applications. This is determined by what is called the memory module set. They look like bookmarks and snap into the motherboard

-----Hard drive: for gaming, you want to sufficient space to store applications

-----Processors: Make sure you have a sufficient size processor
the processor runs the entire computer. for instance, you need to print something off your word processor. you move the cursor to the print button. what happens really is your processor reads the movement of the mouse and relays a message to the monitor, showing that your cursor is over the print button. When you click the button, a message is relayed to the processor that relays another message to the RAM, which recognizes the command and sends another command back to the processor and the processor sends the message to the Hard drive. The hard drive then relays the information back to the processor. The processor takes the information and sends the message to the printer, printing the information on the word processor.

The fact of the matter is, what you got, it ain't enough. Get a new computer. You can buy one for cheaper than what it will cost you to upgrade to run what you want now

I am not sure what games you expect to play off that, but I doubt it will play anything more than maybe some online java or flash games, and the built in games.

and as for it running more present day, no matter what you do that computer will not run as fast as computers now a day, and will not be able to handle much of anything recent computers can.

i would say try putting windows vista on, if that what you want for it to be more modern day, but that might run slow, a laptop that old is pretty useless.

NT is not a forgiving OS, 2000 is a good idea but if you buy an upgrade license now it will be for Vista. This will allow you to run anything up to Vista. I would recommend XP as it is a tested OS and manages to envelop most challenges. You can purchase upgrades for around £80
