Definitely deserved. Led the Ivory Coast to the World Cup finals for the first time and has led Chelsea all this season, also leading the Prem in goals. Eto'o was on a tear for Barca but Cameroon didn't make the cup, and Michael Essien just wasn't as explosive as Drogba. Well done Didier, Well done.

I think he is considering his performance in the premier league, champions league and carling cup. its true mostly strikers stand out in these things but he's done more than expected and thats what counts the most. Eto'o had an injury which prevented him from being top form, essien... well, he tried a bit but drogba was the best in performance (and dont forget about the looks!!!)

i believe Droba has done enough to derserve this award,remember this was based on 2006where he did a lot for club and country. essien is great but he didn't do much for Ghana save the world cup
