Do you like the name Daria?

And how would you pronounce it - dairy-ah, or dah-ri-ah? I love the name, but worry it would be made fun of...

I don't just like the name because it's pretty - I like it because it has Greek origins (and I am half greek), and also is a more common name in the Slavic countries (and my husband is Slovenian). It sounds great with our last name, and also fits well with my husband and my names (both of which are fairly uncommon). I have researched the name - it means "wealthy" or "queenly"...

My main concern is what most have commented on - I can see how young kids might mistake it for diarrhea, or use that as a nickname. That's what is holding me back - otherwise, I love the name, and think it's perfect for our child, based on our ethnic backgrounds and family names.

I like the name. Reminds of the cartoon that used to come on Mtv by the same name, though. definitely dah-ri-ah though. Different, not a lot of people named that.

It could too easily be changed to diarrhea by elementary age kids. Why not try the same syllables with another first letter like Maria (mah-ri-ah) or Saria, etc.

For one thing, kids will be kids. They could make fun of any name. (I know this well personally.) Besides, Daria (dah-ri-ah) is very pretty name. It means something like "sea" in persian.

I pronounce it Dah-Ri-Ah, just like the old MTV show, Daria.

It's okay.

I guess I don't like it as much as I could because of the old show...

Either was u pronounce it its cute...if u worried about it being made fun of u would never be able to name ur child....now a days ppl r made fun of for everything...mind as well give ur child a name u would all like and just be happy with it...

every name either rhymes with something or sounds like something and can be made fun of. i personally love the name Daria i think its so cute not to girly but not totally manly lol i also love the name Delia pronounced Deal-ya or Deal-ee-ah

if its pronounced dah-ri-ah it probably would be made fun of but if its not o well, someone might say it that way. just to be safe stay away from naming anyone that name.

I never thought it sounded like Diarrhea until now!
I like it because of Daria Werbowy the supermodel. It's a cute, unique name :) (I pronounce it like Dare-eeyah)
