Judging by his current achievement and goal scoring performance at the Premiereship, he deserves the award. The three of them deserved the award, but there had to be one winner. Didier Drogba had an edge above the rest - he is the current top goal scorer in the English Premiership and also the current top goal scorer this season in all competition in Europe. That should at least give him some recognition in his home continent.
I think he can also be a strong contender for the Player of the year award.....watch this space.

Hands down Didier Drogba deserves the award this year. If i were making my own team i would want both essien and eto before drogba, but based on this years play drogba has to be the choice for the award. Kolo Toure should also be included in the discussion but he wouldn't win.

I must say that he deserves the African Player of the Year in light of his recent brilliance. Eto'o has won it many times in the past for his good play, but his injury and lack of playing time necessitated a Drogba win this year. Essien is a great player, but his contributions to Chelsea cannot be compared to Drogba's, whose contributions can be statistically noted.

he was the best choice cuz this season he has scored around 30(in all competitions). eto'o was injured and essien wasnt that good.

on wat has happened this season yeah.he deserves it esssien too has been out of ths world for chesea. playing every postion . but overall eto is betta than drogba hands down.
