You are definately not too old. People of all ages work as cooks. It is probably a really good idea for a job during school because the hours shouldn't interfere with your classes.

NO, to both questions. I am 22 and in college, I am a sophomore and should be a Senior. My take on jobs (and most people I talk to seem to agree) is A) does it pay the bills and still leave you enough time to study in a manner that will get you good grades. this is the most important part, and B) will you have some fun or at leased not hate your self every minuet that you are at work. I had a job that I hated and it sucked. but it payed the bills, I have also had jobs that I loved but they did not really cover the bills. the ones you love are great but if you don't cover the bills you will not be able to work there for long. as for feeling embarrassed about being a cook, never, if you like cooking you are a spouses dream come true and at our age people start to really notice that as much as how you look (especially if you are good!). being able to cook is like bonus points!

You should never feel embarassed about doing anything legal & moral to earn a living. Working your way through college is a wonderful idea. We did it w/student loans mostly (multiple degrees) & are still paying for it. Also, working during college demonstrates that you have a great work ethic to future professional employers. They are NOT going to say, "Geez, you worked as a cook to pay for college? What a loser!" That just isn't how it works. When DH did work (during his first degree) he worked in a dining hall on campus, working his way up to be an asst mgr of a hall that served 6k meals daily. Don't be embarassed AT ALL. Some of those idiots (like I was) who are borrowing their way through school will be paying on those loans until their own kids go to college.

Gee Whiz, 22 and you are embarrassed, I bet the person that trains you is around 30 - wonder how they feel? Okay, seriously! Put some perspective here.
If it's paying the bills, what is the big deal. If they are willing to schedule around your school schedule, what is the big deal. Plenty of people put themselves through school while working in the service industry. As waitresses, dishwashers, hosts, delivering pizza, etc.
Lots of people even make careers out of this stuff, even with degrees.

No, you are not too old to go to college to be a cook. As long as you have it in your heart and soul. Whatever your passionate pursuit is, you have to look inside yourself and find the inner chef and take them to next level. No one can make you feel embarrassed about being a cook unless you let them get inside your head.

Weird question... A cook is a noble occupation, it will pay dividends in your relationships too:) I guess it depends on where you are at... If you're a cook for McDonalds, yes, you should be looking for a better job.. If you're a cook at a chain restraunt like applebees or something, then no.. you're good.

No there is no need to be embarresed! If it is a high quality restaraunt then you are lucky as they usually like many years experience, If it is somewhere like MacDonalds you will be a senior staffer in no time either way its a job & there are lots of people who would love to have it. So be happy work hard & good luck.
