it is true that you have to get a dealer license to be a GM at a dealer??

No, only the franchise and the owner have to hold the dealer license. However, if you have prior experience as in independant dealer, it wouldn't hurt to have that under your belt as part of your application. A dealer license is not some kind of certification you have to go to school for, it is the license to buy cars in the wholesale market and sell at retail.

I believe most states and and most oem's original equipment manufactures would require that the gm be a licensed car dealer in the state of operation.

you will need a sales license not a dealer license
