Furneral costs really depend on what you choose to do. I know most people don't feel like price shopping but you should. Many people try to take advantage of your grief. Often times people think cremation is the cheapest route, that is not necessarily true. It is really important to look around, if your not feeling in the mood find a friend or someone who is willing to help you out. When I was planning a funeral some places had as much as a three thousand dollar difference for the same exact things. Many funeral homes also try to make themselves a one stop shop (since they count on you be to grief stricken to shop around.) You don't have to buy flowers, program, headstones or whatever else they offer from the funeral home, you can get these types of things else where for less. In california the lower end of the price range is around five thousand, depending on what services and products you choose to purchase through the funeral home the price works it way up from there.

The cost of the funeral is dependent upon the services used and the merchandise selected. There are three places where expenses are incurred:
Professional Services
Merchandise selected (casket, vault)
Cash Advance Items. Cash advance items are items that we pay for on a family's behalf, that are not directly our services. These items include clergy honorarium, music honorarium, grave opening, flowers, lunch, and monument work to list the most common.
With the many options available to you, it is hard to determine what an "average" funeral cost is. We would be more than happy to sit down with you and discuss the expenses either in person or by phone as the law requires. We invite the comparison of funeral expenses.
Individual burial space tends to start around $400-$500 per space. Add to that an opening charge of around $400-$600 per space plus a vault around $1,000. So far, around $2,000.
Those costs are eliminated if cremation takes place after the services, average $3000 plus casket, average. $2000.
An immediate cremation (without visitation) is the least costly way to go, around $1,000.
So,the typical funeral with burial is about $7,000. A typical funeral with cremation, about$5,000. Immediate cremation, $1,000. --

depends on where u live. in california funerals run from 10-20 thousand! pretty pricey. if u chose to go a different route (cremation/gravesight only), it still can cost 5-15 thousand. good luck with finding a good price and sorry for u'r loss. at times like these, u kinda hope not to worry about money, but unfortunatly you have to. :(
