Not only will Ryan Howard hit between 50-55 home runs but the Phillies will win the division and go on to win the NL Pennant.

He probably will. But I don't care. Homers have been totally cheapened in recent times. And I don't say that because of the steroids, although that's been a factor with some players (I'm not accusing Howard, however). What has cheapened them are the following factors:
1. The ballparks on average are much smaller than they used to be. If you go back just 20 years you will find that the distances were farther to the fences on average - and if you go back 40 or more years, there were even bigger ballparks. There are very few deep center fields anymore & the "power alleys" have all been shortened. A power alley of 365 feet with a 7 or 8 foot high fence is ridiculous (e.g., Camden Yards in Baltimore and there are lots of others that are similar)
2.. The balls are much livelier than they were 20 years ago - there have been studies that prove it.
3. The bats are made of harder wood which causes more "jump."
4. You can't even brush a guy back without getting a warning and/or tossed from the game. Guys like Bob Gibson & Don Drysdale in the old days used intimidation as a part of their game - and the really great hitters rose to the occasion - I'm thinking of Willie Mays & Willie McCovey in the old days vs. Drysdale. I'm not for hitting or maiming guys, but you have to give the pitchers some leeway here.
5. Around 1970, the mound was lowered from 15 to 10 inches high - I would move it back, if not all the way, at least halfway to 12 or 13 inches.

I think he will hit 40-50 homers this season. With his good hitting prowess(he can hit the opposite way), he is a GOOD hitter. He just hit 50 homers last season because the Phillipes' ballpark is smaller especially the right side. But he has a chance in hitting 50 homers if he stays healthy.

While Howard is great, I think he will get walked a ton more this year causing him to fall some in HR. If Burrell didn't suck so much, I think Howard would crack 50, but this year he ends up with 46-47 HR. But the Phillies win the East or the Wild Card for sure.

At least 50; NL MVP Ryan Howard, All-Star Chase Utley and Rollins give the Phillies one of the most formidable lineups in the league.

I think his chances are 50/50, no pun included. If he stays healthy, and he probably will, pitchers will try and pitch around him a little more this year. Hes a great young player and I like him but back to back 50 home run yrs for a player is very rare, I think that Ruth, Sosa, Griffey and Mc Gwire are the only ones to do it. I think 35 to 45 is more realistic..but if Im wrong...I wouldnt be sad
