she sleeps in the day like normal, but will never wake up at night unless I wake her up and take the lid off her house! Is this normal? she is 8 weeks old and is a female orange and white syrian hamster. she is pretty lazy, but does have lots of exercise but some days doesn't feel like exerscising..

Hi,

It's perfectly normal, don't worry. She's only eight weeks old and like a baby, needs more rest than an adult. She needs to conserve her energy for growing. As she gets older she should become a bit more lively, but rodents do spend a lot of time sleeping anyway. My hamsters usally wake up around 10pm and have a little run on their wheel and a feed, but I hardly see them really.

As long as your hamster is looking healthy and her food is going down, you'll know she is fine. She may be getting up when you are asleep and grabbing some food!

NB: Please do not take the above advice and use a hairdryer - you could overheat or even burn the poor thing.

DO NOT use a hairdryer on it like someone else said. This will kill the hamster and scare it. Your hamster is very young and needs more sleep than an adult hamster. If she has nice, clear eyes, isnt sneezing or coughing, and is drinking and eating normally, she is probably just in need of her sleep. Make sure she has lots to do in and out of her cage so that she is not bored. She could play in toiletpaper tubes, cleaned outmeal contains, little igloos, or with many other things. This is a great time to spend bonding with her.

My hamster is 15 months old he still sleeps alot this time if the year it is because their bodies are confused between winter and spring. also make sure your hamster is away from any draughts because they will sleep alot if they are cold.

He might want to be chatting with You yet merely examine Him Over rapidly perhaps He Has A Bruise / damage that you keep urgent once you're dealing with Him? yet when It replaced into extreme He might want to Have Bit You once you Picked Him Up . sturdy luck (:

needs its sleep. And DON'T forget that hamsters hibernate. They look like they are dead and are actually stiff. I used to warm mine up with a hairdryer (sounds crazy, but true) My friend kept poking its nose to see if was moving and the hamster bit his finger!

Nothing! It's just a baby and needs sleep to develop and grow.
