I am doing a paper on this right now...and you do sound communistic/socialistic by the way....
Our state has one of the highest minimum wages in the country and people are still homeless....hmmmm, could it be that our society doesn't know how to manage their money? Could it be that we want things that we can't afford? Are we an entitlement society? Could be. I was a small business owner, and couldn't afford the minimum wage to pay these "workers", half of whom decided that they were entitled to pay without "working". There are many programs out there designed to try and help people find work and a place to live. Unfortunately, THAT system is a whole other can of worms......during the depression they had Work Farms where homeless families could live and raise their own food in a communal like setting....just imagine the stink if the government tried that now.

Did you count them yourself? The problem with these sorts of estimates is that they are not very accurate and it doesn't even begin to differentiate between those who are homeless voluntarily and those who are involuntarily homeless.
