I must say I doubt this to be possible, but I was talking with a friend who said that it was possible for people to live on artificial light after the sun dies. Personnally I think this impossible, but I thought I would ask just the same.

Your friend is....how to say this nicely....a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic. When the Sun "dies", it will first become extremely larger than it is now and engulf the inner planets so that there won't be any earth anymore.

It's a moot point because when the sun dies it will enlarge to a fireball that may engulf the Earth. Even if it doesn't, Earth will still be a burnt out cinder from the force of the explosion. This is why our descendants have to find a way to get off Earth and a place to live within the next 5 billion years or the human race will become extinct.

You are correct. First, the sun will die only after expanding so big it will be out to the Earth's orbit, burning us all out. Next, even if the sun just blinked out quietly, we wouldn't have enough energy to grow crops, keep the planet warm, etc. We'd become an iceball, no matter how many nuclear plants or gas-fueled furnaces we set up. We have a few billion years before our sun dies, fortunately, and we'll be long gone by then.

You are correct (in a way).

Our Sun will still be warming our planet for about 5 billion years. As it dies, it will expand in size, and may engulf our planet, and much of the Solar System as we know it.

Even if it doesn't, our planet will be scorched by the intense heat.

Your friend truly has no idea of how a Solar System evolves.

Without the sun the earth would turn into an ice ball-it is not possible to get the warmth that the sun generates, besides before it burns out it will scorch the earth raw anyway.

All the stars will be dead and dissolved in 10^100 years from now. The proverbial end of the universe.

that would be a very weak and pitiful existence, but I suppose it is possible. We would, of course have to move to another planet, or be house in such a way that the climate outside would not affect us. We have ways of growing food indoors. Water might be a problem though.

Well since the sun would go super nova and boil everything on the planet, I would say that is a long shot.

No sun ;all vegetation would freeze. And you would need more than artificial light to keep warm.
