My son is drinking pumped breast milk and a little formula when I can't pump enough. He has reflux and is starting prilosec because he throws up almost everything he eats. I only feed him 2oz at a time like every hour and a half. He has gained 2lbs since birth. How much do other 6week olds eat in a feeding?

Hi
It is ok how you are feeding him, with reflux they eat smaller amounts but more frequent. It more stressful for you, but once he starts the meds give it 2 weeks and you will see a dramatic improvement. He will be able to eat more at one time and you will get a break.
All babies are different about how much they eat, but if your baby gained 2 pounds since birth he is getting enough in him so don't worry!

2 oz is fine specially if he has GERD. Smaller feedings are suggested with this feeding challenge. Make sure baby gets burped well and is not laid flat for at least 15-30 minutes after a feeding. your baby will slowly increase his formula intake as his tummy feels better (won't you if you were him?) . Don't worry, he's gaining weight. Rule of thumb is if he's lost 5% of his weight - let the pediatrician know. Good luck.

My cousin has 9 mth old twin boys with reflux, and when they were 6wks they were drinking 4oz but it might be that you are feeding him a little at a time but maybe a little too often.

as much as he wants to eat. you build a strong stupply of milk by feeding your baby on cue.
