I live in an townhouse, we have no yard. We have 1 parrot who we love but I would like a pet that is more cuddly... My boyfriend is highly allergic to cats and neither of us want a dog until we have a yard for it to play in. Something with the independence of a cat but without the allergies and the potential danger to my bird. Any suggestions?

would a chinchilla be the kind of pet that would sit in my lap while i watched tv?

i had reptiles growing up and they're not the kind of pet i'm looking for.

a ferret could get in my bird cage and potentially harm my bird so they're out.

Have you considered a Chinchilla? These pets are soft and cuddly and certainly adorable. They shouldn't be left to free roam around the house, as they are avid hiders and chewers, but with supervision they can certainly leave their cage for a little play time. The bird will probably get spooked by any other animal that enters your house, but introduce the 2 pets slowly and they may be able to tolerate eachother. I certainly wouldn't leave them alone to play together though as the parrot could deliver a nasty bite to the little chinchilla. Hope this helps and good luck with whatever pet you chose!

**also, with frequent handling and a lot of attention, chinchillas can certainly become good lap pets! some have even had luck at potty training them to use a litter box for easy cage cleaning!

Rabbits would be a good choice. They can be trained to use a litter box. But I don't know if your bf would be allergic to a rabbit?

There are so many varieties. Some stay small and some can be as large as cats. Start with a baby bunny and train them to your liking so they would love to be handled by you and your boyfriend and to relax on your lap. You can take them out for walks too!

They are quiet and their diet mostly consists of a variety of veggies. Bunny poop is manageable...little pellets!

We have birds also. (Cockatoos and cockatiels). Rabbits are not a threat to birds, since they do not eat birds or bird eggs. And you can keep them in a cage if you need.

Good luck on your search!

I hit the animal planet channel website and found a "dog breed selector." I put a link to it below for you. It will take you through some questions and options to choose from. They are the concerns like you have and will help you pick the breed that is right for you. Good Luck! :)

You could get a hairless cat.

Is he allergic to bunnies and guniea pigs, cause those can also be cuddely.

You can litter box train a rabbit and they actually don't need a cage if you can do that.

How about a guinea pig? Very cute, cuddly, and easy to care for.

have you thought of a corn snake? they are very friendly snakes and very easy to take care of. they have an easy range of temperature to maintain. you only have to change their bedding every month or two (just suck it up with a shopvac and replace) and you only have to feed an adult one mouse every week. we love to play with our snake. she slithers all over the kids. :)

You should get a chinchilla or a chameleon.
