Video stores like blockbuster's are now reportedly loosing millions a year and are on the verge of going under.
They blame this on the rising P2P file sharing craze (Limewire, Ares etc). This activity is technicaly .... well, it IS illegal.
The solution ...
Blockbuster have announced that they are planning a service were you pay a monthly subscription fee and then are able to download as many films as you want from them during that period.
Do you think this would work and would you use it?

I should also add that part of the plan means cutting the amount of actual stores they have in operation by half.

If somebody can do the exact same thing for FREE... Who's gonna pay? Honestly Who wants to spend money if they dont have to. They need to com up with something else. Something that noone else can offer. They ripped off Net Flix... ITs ok but Theres gotta be somthing else. Partner up with pizza places and have a delivery where you can just mail it back.

I don't like downloading movies from the Internet. The fact is they just aren't as good as a DVD. a want high-def quality and booming sound on my plasma not a computer monitor. I don't want to watch low quality video on my computer. It really takes out of the experience because I want to be on the couch eating popcorn, not in a chair. Besides I'm not trying to crash my mom and step dads computer or else they probably won't let me buy my own lab top. I would not use that Blockbuster thing.

I think the reason for video store problems have less to do with file sharing and more to do with other options (netflix, on demand, other forms of entertainment). I have downloaded a couple of movies before but the quality is usually horrible or it takes forever to download even with a high speed connection. Plus most people don't know where to look for this stuff.

I miss the small video shops where you go in and chat with the owner about what film to rent. You got that personal touch. I like going to actually pick a movie rather than download it at home. God in the future we won't even leave our houses for anything! It's all so sad!

Blockbuster is a dinosaur, and it has already made it's fortune. I'm not going to access anything from them. I have over 10,000 films now as it is. I could go into business....I'm not saying I would now, so don't get that idea. I have helped others to achieve their audio/video archives though, at no cost of course.

I'm not surprised that this has happened. There is a move to having services online!!
Not sure how successful it will be though, esp as there are places to download for free (even if they are illegal)
I probably wont use it, but i never went to blockbuster anyways.

On Demand and Netflix are also factors. Why go to Blockbuster when you can get it from your own home?

They are not losing because of file sharing, that are losing because of NetFlix.
However an unlimited download site would be something good, unfortunately their will incorporate DRM into whatever file formats they use. Which means of course that, I for one, will not give them my business.
