I am in high school, but I would like to know what are the 'basics' needed for a bachelor's degree, and how many hours in each subject?

I believe the 'basics' are generally called breadth requirements. What courses you have to take to fulfill these requirements vary from school to school. Just look at the disparity among the Ivies! One, Brown University in Rhode Island, has no required "basic" courses, whereas Columbia University in New York City has a core curriculum with a science, several humanities, cultural diversity courses, and even a PE requirement. (That's just naming a few.)

Really, it all depends. In general though, I believe most classes will require at least one basic English, Math, and Science course (though if you do well on the AP courses, these are generally classes you can opt out of.) Political science, art history, and a smattering of other social sciences and humanities courses are also often included.

While graduation requirements vary from school to school and from major to major, most colleges and universities will require their students to have a foundation in the liberal arts. And so, students will need to take a class or two in areas such as the social sciences, sciences, humanities, etc.

These classes are outside your major, but they help develop a student's ability to see different points of view, and become a more well-rounded person. But the bulk of your classes will be in your major.

Many universities have a set list of "Basic" classes. It depends upon what school you want to go to.

I went to Ohio University and there was about 200 credit hours of liberal arts requirements with only 1 math and 1 english being required.

Check with your school of choice.

Depends what you're taking - write the college that you plan on attending & tell them what you plan on majoring in & they'll send you all that info.
