or will another from of Id be accepable.We are gonig to the American embassyover there to get Visas to go t LA and have to leave our passports with the consulate. So when we fly back I ned to know what other forms of Id we can use instead. This is really urgent.

Where are you travelling to and from? If you're already in the UK then you don't need anything to travel to Belfast as it's part of the UK, no different to a trip to London or Edinburgh.

On a UK intenal flight to or from Belfast you don't need your passport but carrying some form of photo ID such as a new style drivers licence may be useful in case you're asked for ID (I've never been asked).

There is no border control between Northern Ireland and Scotland/England/Wales so you won't need a passport for immigration purposes, however you might need to carry a photo ID for check-in if you are flying and the airline asks for it.

even though you are trvelling within the U.K. a photo I.D. is necessary because there will be officials looking for it a the terminal

You jut need to be able to prove what religion you are in case you are stopped
