My car begins to shake really hard when I am driving and I go over about 50mph.
Does that mean I need a wheel alignment, new tires, or something else?

The steering wheell shakes mostly, which causes the entire car to shake. I think that it is because the tires are shaking.

Ugh, so many bad answers.
Highway speed vibrations are caused by improper tire balance 99.9999999% of the time. As someone who balances dozens of tires a day I can say that with complete confidence.
Wheel alignments NEVER cause highway speed vibrations - the vibration is a rotational issue and suspensions don't rotate. A bad alignment can cause uneven tire wear which may in turn cause some vibration but will also cause a lot of tire related noise.

Most likely you just need to get the wheels balanced. A bad alignment will make the car pull to one side, but usually won't cause a vibration.
If this has been going on for a while, it has also probably worn out your tie rods and ball joints. Better get all the suspension checked while you're at it.

What it means is that there is a problem with the front suspension. You have some bushings worn giving you slop in the alignment. Have it checked. One time I did actually drive the car until the wheel fell off. It was Christmas Eve in the evening and the wife wanted some egg nog. It was also about 15 below zero and I didn't have a coat because the store was close little did I know. So anyway get it looked into soon.

Your problem is more serious than just tires and alignment. A ball joint comes to mind and or a tie rod end. Take it as soon as possible to a trusted mechanic and have those checked.
Not only is it important you can cause a bad accident and or take a few lives and damage your and or others cars. Please go get it looked at while your still here to talk about it.

The simplest thing is tires out of balance, then comes alignment, then the ball joints and linkage problems.
Look at your tires and see if there is any uneven wear on one side or the other, maybe cupped

hard to diagnose without looking at it....but it could be that one of the tires broke the steel radial belt inside which could cause the car to shake (not likely though), a tie-rod could be loose or broken which could also cause shaking...(maybe), a shock has broken or froze up which causes the car to violently shake at higher speeds....OR it's the alignment.
Take your car in to see a mechanic asap...because it could be very dangerous---plus going 50mph must be driving you crazy.......

Bad tire wouldn't cause this, it could be alignment, or a bad CV joint or even steering joints.
Take it to a pro.

It means you have something broken or badly worn, that you need to fix before your front wheels decide to point in different directions.
