Because not everyone speaks English. English is not a universal language. Our neighbors to the north (Canada) and south (Mexico) speak different languages, even if it's only parts of the country that do.

How would we provide homeland security if we didn't understand a Chinese person saying "I'm gonna blow up the White House" or a Saudi Arabian talking about the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden?

How would we trade with other countries? We don't have the resources to produce EVERYTHING domestically.

How would we understand other cultures without understanding their language (an important part of culture)?

How would we have international teams/groups/organizations that work to better the world?

Think about it.

In this day and age and the president's keep letting all these foreigners in our country one would have to learn foreign languages in order to buy anything. It seems that these foreigners wont learn the American language in AMERICA. I say within 2 years each foreigner that does'nt learn and speak the english language deport them back to where they came from.

Learning a foreign language helps you realising the way the speakers think as well as the way they express themselves. While learning L2 you also improve L1 because your ability to communicate ideas increases. There is also the possibility of reading original literary works and easier information access when abroad.

If God did no longer opt for you to examine languages, then why could he/she provide you that 'ear?' there are a lot of human beings, and additionally you sound like one in all them, that hear a language, and at modern start to formulate the form and grammar of it. some say that I easily have that ear, however I communicate in basic terms one language nicely - English, I even have studied Latin, Spanish, French and Italian, too. I doubt that any God reached down and puzzled languages because of the fact of a brick tower. Languages are shaped from the commonality in figuring out suggestions, gadgets and strikes.

Because if you get a good education you might one day have the opportunity to go somewhere else and talking to the locals is pretty handy. It also expands your brain capacity. The more you learn the more you can learn. Good luck on that
