"When", I have no idea but the question is "Will it occur", and the answer is yes. If you haven't heard about "Global warming" then I suggest you watch this movie (An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore). It should explain all your questions. But trust me you will start seeing the signs in the next 30-40 years.

The destruction of the world will happen when mankind will create enough technology for its destruction. This statement is quite disturbing but its the truth that the technological advancement of mankind will lead to its destruction. Machines will destroy emotions....

Its an astronomical certainty our sun will supernova, not that we'll be around to worry about it. The threat of nuclear holocaust, planet killing asteroids, super volcanoes, global warming or world wide pandemics will not destroy the earth....bad for humanity but the world will still exist. Total destruction of the world will come from the super nova.
