It can be done:

1. your computer needs to be able to do 640x480 video (which isn't good quality)

2. your TV needs to be able to do either at least 800x600 or better.

3. the best option is to have a new tv with s video interface and connect that to an s video output from the computer.

4. even then, reading email will be difficult. but movies and games would be possible.

If you have a brand new TV with a HDMI connector, and a computer video card with a HDMI connector too, then yes. Otherwise, you need to have a composite output, S-video output, SCART output, basically an output on your special video card wich is compatible with your TV video inputs. These video cards are not fitted by default on most computers.
Pros: good if you have little space in your studio flat
Cons: bad image quality when you use your computer. The reason is called aliasing, and caused by the fact the TV definition is different (less) than your computer's. If you have a HD TV with the same pixel definition as one of the possible ones on your video card then fine, otherwise forget it.

It could be done. but I would not recomend it. The picture quality of a TV even a HI def TV is not a good as a computer monitor.

If you do not have an SVGA in on the back of your television, or if you do not have an S-Video out, on the back of your computer along with an S-Video in on the back of your television, then you will need to purchase what they call a "TV card", which will allow you to output a coax signal. It looks like crap though.

it is accomplished easily, but you need to know how your Video card outputs, VGA S-Video...
If its VGA and your using a tv that only accepts 75ohm coax then you will need a scan converter and a RF modulator.
If your tv accepts composite video/audio (RCA) then just the scan converter.
If your v card puts out S-video and your tv accepts s-Video then just a cable.
If you want to use the s-video but your tv doesnt accept S-video you can get a S-video converter, walmart has them, S-video in and either 75ohm coax/ or Composite out.

Good Luck

Your graphics card needs to support S-video as well as your TV (most tv's do). If you have an LCD tv, you can just plug it in.
